An Open Door Gives Back at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles

Praise

Hello my name is Shanta Davis and I am the parent of two Open Door students. I would like to say that An Open Door has been there for me and my family. It’s a wonderful gathering for a family like mine. It not only gives to my children but the program helps me and my finance as well. We are on a strict tight budget and at times we do not have gifts for the children. Ms. Murray has done a spectacular job! I know its hard work, but she is heaven sent from God. She has done so many things; I wish I could pay her back. For example: last Christmas I had no money to purchase gifts for my children but thanks to Jingle Bash, An Open Door’s Annual Christmas Party, Ms. Murray with so much Open Door love it was unbelievable! Another example, just recently I needed more shoes and I didn’t have money to buy any. I promise you, I prayed to God and he answered my prayers through An Open Door. At the next parent meeting, Ms. Murray gave away hundreds of pairs of new shoes that had been donated to An Open Door by Talbot’s. Honestly, An Open Door is a wonderful and delightful program and I wouldn’t know what to do without it.
Shanta Davis, Parent

I enjoy being in An Open Door because we always have a lot of fun. It feels good to know that I am a part of the student leadership council. I think that being in An Open Door is a blessing brought to me by God because not everybody I know is in An Open Door. And no woman does what Ms. Murray does. I thank Ms. Murray all the time.

An Open Door means so much to me. If it wasn’t for Ms. Murray there would be no Open Door. A lot of teachers will teach you, let the year go by and forget about you, but not Ms. Murray. She has taken us many places and donated her time. That is very special. She goes through a lot to plan events for us. This is why An Open Door is special to me.
Sharhonda, Age 14

An Open Door has done a lot of wonderful things for me such as fun picnics, school supplies, and Christmas parties. An Open Door has given me gifts, shown me love, kept some friends together, and showed me that caring for others not only yourself is helpful. An Open Door not only donates gifts but it’s a widespread love and joy as well. I love An Open Door and Ms. Murray for all she has done. What would I do without An Open Door!

I am so grateful to Ms. Murray for picking my daughter to join An Open Door Program. This program is so important to me because Ms. Murray gives me orientation and support for my children’s education. This is really important to me and my children’s education. She also makes them happier with the special programs and events she organizes.

As African Americans and Latinos, sometimes society likes to put us down. They make us feel stupid by saying that we’re too dumb to go to college. And if we’re smart enough they tell us we’re too poor to afford college. Then Ms. Murray came along and told us that we can go to college. An Open Door means a lot to me. It means that God believes in us and He is blessing us. He is also blessing Ms. Murray enough to donate items herself, and get other things donated. The good thing about it is the one person in charge of An Open Door, Ms. Murray, is helping children fulfill their lifelong dreams and is not looking for anything in return. I am happy that I am in An Open Door. We should all be proud of ourselves and we should also be thanking Ms. Murray way more often than we are now. I am always willing to help her whenever she asks, without expecting something in return because that is my way of saying thank you for all An Open Door has done.

Being a member of An Open Door, I enjoy the field trips, keeping contact with my friends from 4th grade, and visiting my favorite teacher Ms. Murray. I always enjoy the get-togethers, and sleepovers. I always have a lot of fun.

Our family greatly appreciates Ms. Murray and An Open Door. They are a great support system that provides awesome insight into the requirements of higher education, self esteem; and holding yourself & others in high regard. It’s nice to see someone take interest in our youth without expecting anything In return. Ms. Murray and An Open Door are heaven sent.

In An Open Door program I learned that going to school can lead you to having fun and learning more in life, because that’s what An Open Door teaches you. It also showed me that when you do something good, something good can happen to you. Like when you get good grades you receive good things. And I also learned to keep In touch with your close friends and teachers. I am glad that Ms. Murray keeps In touch With her elementary students and shows them how to be respectful young men and women, especially since we’ve grown a lot since elementary school. Ms. Murray has opened her heart to her students and I want to say thank you for helping me with everything.
